Because of the Presidential $1 Coin Act of 2005, it will be required for the Lincoln cent's reverse be redesigned in 2009. This will result in the mintage of four different coins showing scenes from Abraham Lincoln's life in honor of the bicentennial of his birth.
1. Lincoln's birth and early childhood in Kentucky; "Log Cabin Penny" released on Lincoln's 200th birthday, February 12, 2009
2. Lincoln's formative years in Indiana; "Indiana Penny" to be released on May 14, 2009
3. Lincoln's professional life in Illinois; "Illinois Penny" to be released on August 13, 2009
4. Lincoln's Presidency in Washington, D.C. to be released on November 12, 2009
